1. Introduction

The Container Detention Charges module enables users to calculate detention charges for containers after their free days have expired. It supports filtering by date range, container type, BL number, and other parameters, allowing detention calculation for a single container or multiple containers within a BL. This module ensures accurate charge computation based on defined slabs and contractual terms, enabling efficient invoicing.

2. System Requirements

  • User Role: Admin, Container Rental Manager, or Operations Executive with detention calculation access.

3. Logging In

  1. Navigate to the Zealit System login page.

  2. Enter your username and password.

  3. From the top-right search bar, type Container Detention Charges and select the module from the dropdown.

4. Main Features and Functions

4.1 Accessing Container Detention Charges

  1. In the search bar, type Container Detention Charges.

  2. Select the module from the search results.

  3. The detention charges screen will open.

4.2 Filtering Container Records

  1. Click the Filter icon located at the right side, center of the screen.

  2. The filter options will appear, including:
     - From Date
     - To Date
     - Container Type
     - BL Number
     - Container Number
     - Charge Code

  3. Enter the desired filter criteria.

  4. Click Apply to display the filtered list of containers.

4.3 Calculating Detention Charges for Selected Containers

Scenario Example:
If a BL contains 10 containers, each with 7 export free days, but you need to calculate detention for only one container:

  1. Apply filters for the relevant BL number.

  2. From the results, check the box for the specific container you want to process.

  3. Click Calculate Demurrage.

  4. The system will calculate detention charges only for the selected container, not the entire containers from the BL.

  5. A confirmation pop-up will display:
    "Container rental calculated successfully".

  6. You may now generate an invoice for the detention amount for that specific container.

4.4 Running Detention for All Containers in a BL (Use Container Rental Contract)

The Container Detention Charges screen can calculate only the containers you explicitly select.
If you need to run detention for
all containers in a BL, do it via the Container Rental Contract module.

Steps:
  1. Open Container Rental Contracts (via search bar).

  2. Locate and open the relevant active contract that covers the BL’s container type, moves, and dates.

  3. Click Calculate Demurrage.

  4. The system calculates detention for selected containers in the BL as per the contract’s slabs (Start Move, End Move, Free Days, Slab rates).

    Reminder:

    In the
Container Detention Charges screen, if you do not select any checkbox and click Calculate Demurrage, you will receive No row selected.”
To process all containers, use the
Container Rental Contract module as above.

5. Troubleshooting Common Issues

IssueSolution
Filter not showing correct containers               Check that the filter parameters (dates, BL number, container number) are correctly entered and valid.
Detention not calculating for selected container               Ensure the correct container checkbox is selected and that the container has movement dates beyond the free day period.
All containers calculated instead of one               Make sure you have ticked only the specific container’s checkbox before clicking Calculate Demurrage.

6. FAQs

Q1: Can I calculate detention charges for multiple containers but not all in the BL?
A: Yes. Select only the required container checkboxes before clicking Calculate Demurrage.

Q2: Does detention calculate automatically when free days expire?
A: No. You must manually trigger calculation by clicking Calculate Demurrage.

Q3: Can I re-run detention calculation for the same container?
A: Yes, but the system will recalculate based on updated dates and movements.
