1. Introduction

The Container Rental Contract module is designed to manage rental agreements for containers between service providers and customers. It enables users to set tariff types, container specifications, charges, and responsible agencies while ensuring accurate calculation of detention charges (demurrage) based on defined slabs. The system ensures that container rental terms are properly managed, tracked, and billed according to agreed conditions.


2. System Requirements

  • User Role: Admin, Container Rental Manager, or Contract Manager access


3. Logging In

  1. Navigate to the Zealit System login page.

  2. Enter your username and password.

  3. Select the Container Rental Contract module from the left-side ribbon or through the search bar in the top-right corner.



4. Main Features and Functions

4.1 Creating a Container Rental Contract

  1. Go to Container Rental Contracts > Create New.

  2. Select Tariff Type – choose either General or Special. (Mandatory – Example: General)

  3. Select Container Type from the dropdown. (Mandatory)

  4. Select Charge Type from the dropdown – whether the charge is Revenue or Cost. (Mandatory)

  5. Select the appropriate Charge Code from the dropdown. (Mandatory)

  6. Select Charge Owner from the dropdown. (Mandatory)

  7. Select Shipment TypeExport or Import.

  8. Select Starting Move – the movement from which the container rental should start. (Mandatory)

  9. Select Ending Move – the movement at which the container rental should stop. (Mandatory)

  10. Select Valid From and Valid Till dates.

  11. Select Status – Active or De-Active.

  12. Select Responsible Agency from the dropdown – the agency responsible for the rental.

  13. Set Auto Run Type to Manual. (Mandatory)

  14. Click Save to finalize the contract.

Note: This contract creation screen is agency-specific.



4.2 Managing Tariff Details and Slabs

  1. Open the Tariff Details tab.

  2. For each slab:

    • Enter Slab From (start unit)

    • Enter Slab Till (end unit)

    • Select Currency from the dropdown

    • Enter the Amount

  3. Click Add to save each slab.

  4. To modify existing slabs, click the Edit icon next to the record.



4.3 Calculating Demurrage

  1. Open the Container Rental Contract in edit mode.

  2. Click the Calculate Demurrage button.

  3. A pop-up will appear showing the Till Date field.

  4. Enter the Till Date and click Submit.

  5. Detention charges will be calculated automatically based on the Slab From and Slab Till values defined in the tariff details.

    CONTAINER RENTAL CONTRACT DEFINED = 


    EXPLAINATION = 

    A contract is defined under the Tariff: General for container type: 20GP, Charge Type: Revenue, Charge Code: CDTT, with Charge Owner: Agency.
    It applies to Export shipments, for movements starting at Start Move: PLOTOUT and ending at End Move: PORTIN, with Responsible Agency: SLSS-JEA.

    Validity Period: 01/06/2025 to 30/09/2025

    Slab Rates:

    • 1–7 days: 0.00 AED

    • 8–12 days: 1,000 AED per day

    • 13 days and above: 2,000 AED per day

    Free Days:

    • Origin: 7 days

    • Destination: 14 days

    Contract Execution Logic:
    For export shipments, when the container status is updated to Move Code: PLOTOUT and Calculate Demurrage is triggered when it is clicked :

    • If the stay is within the 7 free days, no charge is applied (amount = 0).

    • If the stay exceeds 7 days but is within 12 days, a rate of 1,000 AED per day is charged for the excess days.

    • If the stay exceeds 12 days, a rate of 2,000 AED per day applies for all days beyond day 12.

    STEP 4 : CONTAINER DETENTION CHARGES -- When BL number is filtered and checked , rental has been calculated for that container till date & End Move.


    IN REMARKS  : "CONTAINER NUMBER :SLSSCONT0001 START FROM : 06 Aug 2025 CALCULATED TILL: 13 Aug 2025 TOTAL DAYS = 8 FREE DAYS = 7 PORT FREE DAYS = 0 CHARGABLE DAYS = 1 CONTRACT ID = 1054 1 * 1000 AED TOTAL AMOUNT = 1000 AED INVOICED AMOUNT = 0 AED AMOUNT TO BE INVOICE = 1000 AED"

    Here, we conclude that Total days extends to above 7 days and and it falls under the 2nd slab based on which rental calculated.

5. Troubleshooting Common Issues

IssueSolution
Cannot Add New ContractEnsure all mandatory fields are filled (Tariff Type, Container Type, Charge Type, Charge Code, Charge Owner, Starting Move, Ending Move, Auto Run Type) and that the contract code is unique.
Demurrage Not CalculatingVerify that valid slabs are entered in the tariff details and that you have selected Calculate Demurrage with the correct Till Date.

6. FAQs

Q1: Can I change the tariff type after a contract is created?
A: Yes, but changes will only apply to future transactions.

Q2: Will demurrage calculate automatically?
A: No, demurrage calculation is only triggered when you click Calculate Demurrage and provide a valid Till Date.

Q3: Is the contract creation screen common for all agencies?
A: No, it is agency-specific, and the responsible agency must be selected in the contract.
